Things to do in Pu Luong

Pu Luong Nature Reserve sits in Thanh Hoa province, a separate massif from Sapa's Hoang Lien range even though both show the same stepped green terraces and misty limestone ridges. The reserve is built around a valley of paddy fields worked by Thai and Muong communities, with wooden water wheels along the Cham stream still used to lift water into the upper terraces rather than kept for display.

Tourism here runs through homestays and small family-run lodges rather than hotels, and the valley sees noticeably fewer visitors than Sapa's terraced hillsides.

Pu Luong is also distinct from neighbouring Mai Chau: the two are sometimes combined in a single itinerary, and their valleys share a similar look, but they are different reserves with their own villages, trails and water wheels, not one destination under two names.
